BEAUTIFUL HANDCRAFTED WEBSITES

Responsive Website Design

No other element of a website leaves an immediate and lasting impression, builds trust, and compels visitors to come back like good design. It’s the silent seller.

First impressions last. Studies have shown that visitors form an opinion about a website’s credibility almost instantly, even before they read a single word. A clean, well-structured layout with compelling imagery and intuitive navigation tells visitors that you (a) care enough about your business to present it professionally, and (b) are likely to extend that same care to their needs when they become your customers.

Conversely, mismatched colors, low-res graphics, and outdated fonts, perhaps all shoehorned into a cookie-cutter template, can subconsciously convey the message that your business is careless—or worse—unreliable. While content, keywords, and functionality are important, no other element of a website leaves an immediate and lasting impression, builds trust, and compels visitors to come back like good design. It’s the silent seller. And at Lost Highway Media, it’s where every project starts and ends.

We build websites that are...

Beautifully Designed

In the beginning (mid 1990s) came the "refrigerator magnet" look: fluorescent text, flashing buttons, animated gifs flailing for attention—the web was new, and excitement overpowered elegance. Soon, Flash took over with its cinematic transitions and talking menus, but it came with agonizing load times, sporadic accessibility, and a complete meltdown when mobile browsing came along. "Flat Design" cleaned things up by distilling everything on the screen down to what looked like a confusing kindergarten presentation.

Trends age fast. The internet moves even faster. What doesn’t age? Design grounded in clarity, balance, hierarchy, readability, and purpose. When a site feels effortless to navigate and pleasant to look at—not screaming for attention, not begging you to notice its cleverness—that’s when it works. That’s when it builds trust.

At Lost Highway Media, we've been designing and developing for the web since the mid-1990s. We've been through all the trends, and we've seen what works and what doesn't. We've always gravitated to timeless, proven principles of design and user experience so our clients don't have to start over with a new website every time a trend goes out of style. Great websites aren't built for the moment—they’re built to last.

Custom-Tailored to the Client

When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Let's face it, almost all web design companies out there today are WordPress (or similar platform) shops that only know how to build websites using prebuilt templates and themes. Yet they set their prices at a level the client would expect to pay for a custom-designed, professionally developed website. Many Lost Highway Media clients are, in fact, former WordPress website owners who turned to us for rescue after repeatedly dealing with the perils and pitfalls of keeping a WordPress website running reliably.

At Lost Highway Media, we don't use prefab platforms, cookie-cutter templates, or trending (but unproven) tools. We. Write. Code.

We build native websites, handcrafted from scratch, and custom-tailored to the client. On the technical side, we use reliable tools and trusted technologies; we focus on the standards and best practices proven to produce successful results. On the creative side, we listen, we learn, and we make our clients look better than their competitors on the web.

Intuitive & User-Friendly

Millions of dollars and a decade of exhaustive research went into developing the modern graphical user interface (GUI) at Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) in the 1970s. That interface quickly became a big deal in Silicon Valley. So big, in fact, that it was "adopted" by Steve Jobs for use in Apple's Lisa and Macintosh systems in the early 1980s, then by Bill Gates for Microsoft's Windows operating system shortly thereafter (there were lawsuits; you may have read about them). We still use that same GUI today, and as long as the standard anatomical configuration of humans includes two arms, two hands, ten fingers, and two eyes, it is almost certain to remain the optimal human-computer interface.

When it comes to website user interface (UI) and user experience (UX), clear structure, familiar design patterns, and smooth interactions remove friction and frustration, which means fewer abandoned visits and a better first impression. Good UI/UX quietly guides people from curiosity to confidence, creating a positive experience that reflects well on the brand behind it. It's just common sense, and at Lost Highway Media it's baked into every website we build.

Responsive & Mobile-Ready

Website visitors expect nothing less than outstanding user experience across their devices in 2025. That's why our websites are responsive and mobile-ready, optimized to adapt clearly and beautifully to any device screen from the smartphone up to the largest HD desktop monitor. Responsive web design = one website, all devices—that's how we do it. And it's not just for humans—it's also a huge factor for standards-compliance and search engine relevance and ranking.
